Doja Cat briefly opened up about a complication she experienced following plastic surgery. On May 10, the Grammy award winner performed at iHeartRadio’s 102.7 KIIS FM Wango Tango music festival, and during her set, she wore a light blue, sequin dress with a plunging neckline that put a lot of her cleavage on display. As videos of her performance quickly began circulating online, fans inevitably began commenting on how her body looks, calling attention to one of her breasts, which appeared to look misshapen. Doja Cat later took to X to address the comments with one short tweet.
“Don’t clock my contracted implant it’s all i [sic] ask,” she wrote on May 11. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a contracted implant (better known as a capsular contracture) occurs when scar tissue forms around an implant. This is usually part of the healing process after getting breast implants, as the scar tissue or “capsule” is meant to help keep the implants in place, but in some cases, the tissue can harden and contract around it. This can cause the breast to look slightly misshaped or lopsided, and it may even cause pain or tenderness in the area. Most contractures happen within two years of a person having surgery, though it’s not clear when Doja Cat got her implants.
The Scarlet rapper has been open about getting plastic surgery before. In 2023, she revealed she had liposuction on her hips and thighs, as well as a breast augmentation, and she even shut down critics who weren’t supportive of her decision to go under the knife. While we wish famous women didn’t feel obligated to constantly address unnecessary commentary made about their bodies, we can appreciate Doja Cat for at least being honest about her struggle.
