Thanks to her genes and also her jeans, Sydney Sweeney’s popularity among men has reached a crescendo. Ask any man who their favorite female star is, and most will now say Sydney Sweeney. So for her part, Sweeney now appears to be taking that male popularity and cashing it in to make a movie for women.
Sweeney is going to be in The Devil Wears Prada 2, according to rumors swirling on X. It hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but she’s been filmed on the sequel’s set by various scoopers.
If she is in The Devil Wears Prada 2, it’s probably not in a big role. The sequel is bringing back Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, with new faces like Justin Theroux and Lucy Liu joining the cast. They’ll probably be the focus.

Assuming The Devil Wears Prada 2 is actually what Sydney Sweeney is doing next, from a career standpoint, it’s brilliant. Right now, men love her, and women claim to hate her. I say claim because American Eagle mostly made money off her recent ad campaign by selling jeans to women. As often happens, the public reaction of women does not match their private one.
In any case, the perception is that women hate her right now. What better way to turn that around than with a role in the one sequel every woman in the world likely wants most? It won’t dim her popularity with men, at least as long as she keeps wearing sexy outfits, and it’ll instantly earn her the other half of the human demographic.

An appearance in The Devil Wears Prada is not entirely out of line with the rest of Sweeney’s acting career. Most of her work up til now has primarily been in movies and television shows with a female audience. It’s only in the world of advertising that she’s tried to appeal to men. Last year, she released a raunchy direct-to-streaming romcom called Anyone But You, which seemed designed to try and jumpstart her as the new Julia Roberts. The movie was good and did well on Netflix, but it’s not enough to win over women.
If Sydney Sweeney wants to be the next Marilyn Monroe, who is now as beloved by women as she is by men, a move like this one is what it’ll take. Otherwise, she’ll end up on track to be Megan Fox with a better acting coach.
