Jamai Raja in Godavari : Recently, the Godavari district of Telangana has been in the news for its tradition of providing unmatched hospitality and warm welcome to its sons-in-law. There is a tradition in these districts, in which special banquets are organized to honor the sons-in-law, which are very grand and memorable. One such example came to light recently, when Kolli Shiva Bhaskar, son-in-law of Vandanapu Venkateswara Rao and his wife, was treated to a sumptuous meal with 452 varieties of dishes by his in-laws in Eluru district. The feast included traditional Telugu dishes like Pulihora, Bobbattalu, Pesarattu and Garijalu. Apart from this, there was also a wonderful variety of sweets, which included Ariselu, Kaja and Bandar Laddu. This grand feast was organized on the occasion of Sankranti and Shiva Bhaskar was mesmerized by it.

In another example, Saket, who is the son-in-law of Majeti Satyabhaskar and Venkateshwari, was served 470 types of pure vegetarian dishes by his in-laws on the occasion of Sankranti in Yanam (near Kakinada). The feast included dishes like Sakinalu, Gavvalu, Koodumulu, and various types of chutneys and pickles were also served. Saket was surprised and happy with this unique welcome and grand feast.

In Telangana’s Sangareddy district, Ramulu and his wife Meghna prepared 130 types of dishes for their new son-in-law Srikanth Rao during the Sankranti festival. The feast included popular dishes like Idli, Vada, Dosa and traditional sweets like Laddu, Jalebi, Barfi. Their daughter Nisha saw how hard her parents were preparing this meal to honor their son-in-law. It was a special occasion for the family, and Srikant Rao received a feast like a king.
