UdaipurTraditional Akola print is being done in Akola village of Udaipur division for years, which is now getting recognition globally. The specialty of this print is its natural dyeing and hand carved printing, which shows the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan. Now preparations are being made to mold this traditional art according to modern fashion.

Students of Mohanlal Sukhadia University have taken a unique initiative to convert this print into western wear. Students believe that more than 300 families are connected with this art, who are making it a means of livelihood. This initiative will not only give a new dimension to this print, but the artisans associated with it will also get more opportunities.

Akola print is getting new identity
Akola print is no longer limited to traditional costumes, but it is also being included in Western Wear. A student of Mohanlal Sukhadia University said that now the cost of co-ords sets, one-piece dress, jumps and jackets are being prepared from this print, which are very popular among today’s youth. With the changing times, the demand for this print has also increased rapidly. Recently, 1800 meter cloth was sent to various places in India, which proves that its popularity is increasing by putting traditional art in modern fashion.

Local artisans will get benefit
The artisans of Akola village are also expected to get big benefits from this initiative. Local artisans have also welcomed this change and considered it a better opportunity to preserve their art.
