New Delhi. Even in June, due to extreme heat, incidents of ACs burning and exploding are being reported. Not only this, even the existing ACs are not able to provide cooling in homes like before. Talking about the latest incident, last Wednesday night, the AC compressor in a doctor’s house in the sixth floor of Merlin Society, Vasundhara Sector-13, burst due to overheating late at night. Due to this, fire broke out in and around the house. Even before this, many such incidents have been seen in many cities including Delhi and Ghaziabad. In summer, due to the increase in temperature much more than before, many types of problems are being faced in AC. However, if you also feel that your AC is not cooling as well as before, then we are going to tell you the reason for this. They will also tell you how this problem can be solved.
It is extremely hot especially in Delhi-NCR and surrounding cities at this time. The situation is such that the temperature has remained between 40 to 49 degrees for more than a month. At the same time, the minimum temperature has also not gone below 32 degrees. For this reason even ACs are not able to cool the rooms.
According to a report published in NBT, Dr. Jayant Basu, Professor of Electrical Engineering Department of a Deemed University, says that most of the air conditioners can reduce the inside temperature by only 10 to 20 degrees as compared to the outside temperature. AC heat exchanger, compressor and PCB are the main components. The heat exchanger throws out hot air. At the same time, there is nitrogen gas in the compressor and the PCB controls the power supply of the AC unit. Heat exchangers in normal AC are not of good quality. Because of this they are not able to throw out the hot winds with full force.
The capacity of imported heat exchanger and compressor is limited. In such a situation, the AC starts reducing the cooling as soon as the temperature goes above 38 to 40 degrees. Dr. Basu says that if the temperature outside is 45 degrees, then the temperature in the room with AC running will remain between 30 to 35 degrees. In some cases it can remain around 25 degrees.

Similarly, according to a BSES official, as soon as the outside temperature exceeds the capacity of the AC, the AC has to struggle to cool the room. There is load on the AC also and the AC starts getting damaged quickly. If the outside temperature increases too much, there may be excessive heat around the AC. In such a situation, if the AC runs at 50 degrees, its performance will not be better. According to the official, in a temperature of 44 to 45 degrees, no normal AC can reduce the temperature of the room to 22 to 25 degrees. It has also been told in a report related to home appliances that in places with extreme heat, even if the AC is set at 20 degrees, the temperature will remain at 35 degrees.
In places like Dubai, the day temperature reaches 50 to 55 degrees. In such a situation, better heat exchanger and compressor are used. Which easily cools the room to 22 to 24 degrees.
How to get better cooling?
- As soon as the outside temperature goes above 40 degrees, the load on the compressor increases. In such a situation, pack the room well so that hot air does not come from anywhere and there is no load on the AC.
- Experts advise that in extremely hot areas, specially developed industrial or commercial ACs should be installed.
- To save electricity and reduce the load on AC, keep the temperature of AC at 24 degrees.
- Run the fan along with the AC. This will spread the air all around and provide better cooling.
- Keep getting the AC serviced regularly.
- Also clean the filter once a month. With this the AC will provide better cooling.
