Jessica Simpson Got ‘Desert Sunset Blond’ Hair for Summer

Listen to this article

Jessica Simpson is basically synonymous with blond bombshell, so anytime she switches up her hair color, we take notice. Recently, the star traded her buttery blond hair for a new summer shade. Her colorist, Rita Hazan, is calling the color “desert sunset blond.”

What is desert sunset blond?

“Think dirty blond tones kissed by golden, beachy light—like you just got back from a beach vacation with naturally lightened pieces from the sun,” Hazan tells us. “It’s an undone, sun-warmed tone.”

How to get the look

“First and foremost, make sure that you are going to a professional stylist to achieve this look to chemically process your hair—never lighten hair at home,” says Hazan. When in the salon, she recommends telling your stylist you’re looking for blended, seamless, neutral tones with warm highlights that add dimension and contrast. If all else fails, bring in a photo of Simpson’s newest look.

How to maintain the color

Blond upkeep is no walk on the beach. “It’s inevitable for blond hair to become yellow and brassy from the elements (especially in the summer with the salt water and chlorine),” says Hazan. “I always reach for Glaze Supergloss ($22) (if you’re going desert dunset blond, use Vanilla Lights to complete the look) to help maintain color between salon visits. It’s super low-maintenance and boosts both colored and natural hair, delivering a rich, shiny payoff that leaves hair looking refreshed with salon-worthy shine.”
