Lauki kofta recipe: Gourd means ghee is considered a very light and beneficial vegetable for health. But to be honest, many people shy away from eating it, especially children and youth. Gourd koftas are the traditional dish of North India which is made on a special occasion. Making it is a little hard work, but its taste makes that hard work completely valid. This vegetable is very much liked in food from marriage to festival. When you want to move away from simple vegetables everyday, then gourd koftas are a great option. Let’s know the easy recipe of gourd koftas which you can make comfortably at home.
Required material for koftas
The material for gravy is as follows
- Tomato – 2 Medium
- Onion – 1 big
- Ginger – 1 teaspoon
- Garlic-4-5 buds
- Green Chilli – 1
- Turmeric – Half a teaspoon
- Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
- Red chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- salt to taste
- Garam Masala – Half a teaspoon
- Kasuri Methi – 1 teaspoon (if you want)
- Oil – 2 to 3 tablespoons
- Green coriander – to decorate

The method of making koftas is step by step as follows
- 1. First peel the gourd and grate it.
- 2. Now press this grated gourd with hand and remove its water. Keep in mind that do not drain the water too much, leave some moisture.
- 3. Add gram flour, green chillies, ginger, salt, red chili powder and green coriander to this gourd and mix.
- 4. Now make small round shaped koftas with hands.
- 5. Heat the oil in the pan and fry these koftas on medium flame till they turn golden. Then take out and keep it aside.
The method of making gravy is step by step as follows
- 1. First grind onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and green chillies in a mixer and make a paste.
- 2. Now add 2-3 teaspoons of oil to the pan and heat it.
- 3. Add this prepared paste to it and cook on medium heat until the oil starts separating.
- 4. Now add turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder, salt and fry for 4-5 minutes.
- 5. When the masala is roasted well, add 1 cup of water and let it boil.
- 6. Now add garam masala and if you want, add kasuri fenugreek.
- 7. If the gravy looks a little thick, you can add more water.
- 8. Now add fried koftas and let it cook on low heat so that koftas can taste in gravy.

Method of serving
This delicious vegetable of gourd koftas is ready. You can serve it with hot bread, paratha, naan or rice. If you decorate with green coriander on top, then it will also look very beautiful. This recipe is very easy to make.

If the water comes out of the gourd while making koftas, then you can increase the amount of gram flour slightly. If you want, you can make gravy even more rich by adding some cashews and cream.
