“My Ass” Music Video Has A Better Jump Scare Than Any Horror Movie

While watching an episode of the YouTube channel Game Grumps, the hosts started referencing a song called, “My Ass”. It was not a song that was familiar to me, someone who once made a hobby of finding silly and bizarre songs that seemed plucked from some parody world. Oh, how I miss the days of sending my friends “Soccer Practice” by Jonny McGovern, something that would probably put me on the government’s ever-expanding list of thoughtcrime if I link to it.

Anyways, “My Ass” is a 2009 single by Norwegian singer Linni Meister. It’s a short and sweet stick of bubblegum pop playing up the “bimbo sexy baby” character that dimwits drool over. It’s fun enough as an outright celebration of Linni’s cheekiness, but the thing that made me leap out of my seat was during my viewing of the music video.

I mean, I wasn’t just going to listen to the audio of a song called “My Ass” when there was a music video option. I’m very glad I made that choice because I had no idea it would lead to the biggest jump scare I’ve experienced this year.

Have Some Nazi Zombies in Your Cheeky Music Video

At 1:11 into the “My Ass” music video, Linni is joined by two models who walk into frame on opposite ends carrying white placards. Digitally projected on those placards are ads for Dead Snow, a 2009 horror comedy about Nazi zombies.

When this happened, I nearly shot through the ceiling into my neighbor’s apartment. The utter cacophony of cackling I produced was one for the books. Here I was, casually researching this off-the-wall reference from a YouTube channel I enjoy, and in the midst of its Barbie-esque booty shenanigans, I got smacked with product placement for a gory goofball flick about Nazi zombies.

The Dead Snow ads pop up a few more times in the music video and they kept my guffaw train a’runnin’. Now, I had another thread to pull. What was going on here?!?

The Simple Story Behind the  “My Ass” Dead Snow Connection

It didn’t take me long to discover that the reason Dead Snow shows up in Linni’s “My Ass” music video is the simplest answer of all: money. From what I could find, Dead Snow paid to have their movie promoted in the video which helped get the video produced. There isn’t anything much more complicated than that as far as the backstory to this weird little moment.

Instead, I just love soaking in the tonal dissonance of this one-of-a-kind piece of movie marketing. The idea that a movie like Dead Snow would end up blazened across some bubbly softcore music video called “My Ass” is inarguably hilarious. Hey, that was probably part of the thought process behind such a marketing decision! I can’t say it made me want to watch Dead Snow or its sequel, but I can definitely say I’ll never forget about Dead Snow because of its product placement in a music video centered around one woman’s rear end.

There is very little joy to be found out there in the world these days. The laughing fit I experienced thanks to Dead Snow popping up in the “My Ass” music video reminded me I’m not yet dead (snow) inside yet. I hope someone out there can get a giggle out of this stupid slice of 2009. Sure seems like a simpler time.
