She didn’t hold back at condemning the hate.

WA$$UP’s Jiae first came out as bisexual back in 2018. She did so through a short but strong message posted on her Instagram stories: “I love men and women. Can you understand?” In a follow-up story, she even revealed that she has a girlfriend and is very happy with her.

Years later, Jiae continues to share pictures of her relationship. Unfortunately, her latest post featuring her girlfriend seems to have been met with hate comments.

After Jiae shared the sweet snapshot and captioned it with “I hope you all love without prejudice” alongside a rainbow emoji, the popular Korean media outlet OSEN published an article about the post.

In the article’s comments, Jiae and her girlfriend — particularly her short hairstyle — were the targets of much hate.

  • “I really wish TV wouldn’t broadcast things like this. It has a seriously bad influence on children.”
  • “We’re in an era of low birth rates, and the country is already in decline. Instead of showing off, just stay hidden. A time is coming when you’ll be pelted with stones…”
  • “This is hilarious. Why is your girlfriend dressing like a man? Don’t you think that’s a contradiction? Haha. Even in same-sex relationships, there are still only two genders — male and female.”
  • “How come one of the lesbians in a lesbian couple always cuts their hair short like a man? Does it mean she plays the male role?”

Jiae seemingly saw the comments and did not hold back when condemning them. She shared a screenshot of the comment section with her own scathing caption.

This isn’t cross-dressing; she’s just a cool-looking woman. In same-sex relationships, it’s still woman-to-woman. The level of knowledge here…

As one of the few openly LGBTQ+ stars in the Korean entertainment scene, it’s good to see Jiae holding strong against the haters and not being afraid of calling out ignorance.
