It was his debut K-Movie.

In the latest episode of “Zzanbro,” a YouTube channel show hosted by comedian Shin Dong Yup, actor Lee Yi Kyung guested to share a story about the opposition he faced at home as he made his debut in the Korean entertainment business.

Lee Yi Kyung debuted in 2012 as Tae Joon in director Lee Song Hee Il‘s K-Movie White Night. The movie, one of three queer-themed movies from the director best known for his 2006 movie No Regret, follows the story of Tae Joon’s passionate one-night stand with a flight attendant landing in Korea for the first time in two years.
That said, Lee Yi Kyung revealed his father was absolutely flabbergasted by the plot of White Night.
I was shooting a queer-themed movie without having told my parents. So when my father found out about it and read the part of the script about my character having sex with another man, it was absolute chaos.
— Lee Yi Kyung
Upon learning about the queer character Lee Yi Kyung had taken on, the actor’s father—well known to fans as a C-suite executive in the LG conglomerate—demanded Lee Yi Kyung to “drop everything and come home.”

He called me when I was on set and asked if I was taking part in a movie called White Night. He told me to drop everything and come home… He was willing to cover all the costs of taking the production down.
— Lee Yi Kyung
Lee Yi Kyung did not reveal much about the confrontation that followed, but he did mention having stood up for himself—telling his father that he was a grown man who even completed his military duty. Given how his acting career grew after White Night, Lee Yi Kyung must have successfully convinced his parents to let him pursue his dream!
