This feature has been available in Gmail for a long time. But, most people are not aware of this. Any e-mail can be secured using this mode. Mail sent through this mode cannot be forwarded, copied or printed. Also, the receiver cannot download the messages or attachments of this mail.

However, a screenshot of this mail can definitely be taken. Google claims that Confidential Mode helps prevent users from accidentally sharing messages. But Google also warns that receivers may use malicious software apps to copy or download messages and attachments.

What can you do with Gmail’s confidential mode?

Through Gmail’s confidential mode, users can set an expiration date on a mail and remove access to the mail at any time. Moreover, to open this mail, the receiver will also need a verification code. Also, confidential mode mail cannot be scheduled. In other words, when using confidential mode, you will have complete control over when you send any mail.

Use confidential mode like this:

  • For this, first go to Gmail on the laptop.
  • Then click on compose.
  • Then turn on Confidential Mode from the bottom right of the window. You will see a lock like icon at the bottom.
  • Then set the expiry date and passcode. Here you can set expiry from 1 day to 5 years. At the same time, mails can be sent without passcode also.
  • Then save it.
